Paul Cook represents the 8th Congressional district in California, spanning the eastern desert region, including Inyo, Mono, and most of San Bernardino Counties. Since his election to the U.S. House in 2012, Cook is rarely seen in his district and has withdrawn from his community, refusing to hold town halls. In 2017, his constituents held a vigil for their “missing” representative. He has repeatedly voted against programs like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, even though he represents one of the most impoverished districts in California. Tens of thousands of his constituents rely on programs he votes to cut. He represents a large Latinx community, but that hasn’t stopped him from voting to revoke protections for DREAMers pursuing an education or a career in the military. CA-08 deserves a representative who shows up to hear their concerns.
