CA42 - Ken Calvert (R) v. Julia Peacock (D)

The Democratic Challenger: Julia Peacock

As a teacher, she has always specialized in helping students in our most low-income, high-risk schools, where she has the greatest potential to transform lives. She is running for Congress to help shape an America that lifts up everyone and leads no one behind.

Her top issues include: Education access, free community college, Medicare for All, equal rights

The Republican Incumbent: Ken Calvert

Congressman Ken Calvert votes with Trump all the time. An early supporter of Trump, Calvert said of him, “Donald is a disruptor and Washington certainly needs that.” You can know his heart by his response to Trump’s decision to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Instead of standing with the DREAMers, Calvert did the opposite, introducing legislation meant to wall them out of the workforce. He did this despite representing one of the largest Latino populations in California. Residents of the 42nd District deserve better.

Congressman Calvert has consistently voted against Medicaid, yet:

  • 33% of the children in CA-42 are on Medicaid or CHIP, and
  • 15% of the adults in CA-42 are on Medicaid

Congressman Calvert has consistently voted against the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps families in need provide healthy food for children and seniors, yet:

  • 19,469 households in CA-42 receive SNAP, and 28% of them have a senior 60 or older in the household and 68.4% of them have a child under 18

Congressman Calvert voted dozens of times to repeal the Affordable Care Act, even though it has contributed to a substantial increase in the number of insured CA-42 residents:

  • Drop In Uninsured Rate Thanks to the Affordable Care Act in CA-42: 50.3%, from 15.9% to 7.9%
  • Number of CA-42 Residents Covered Under the ACA’s Medicaid Expansion: 54,100
  • Number of CA-42 Residents Covered Through the ACA’s Marketplace Under Covered California: 22,100

Congressman Calvert has accepted $147,166 from the NRA.
