CA45 - Mimi Walters (R) v. Katie Porter (D)

The Democratic Challenger: Katie Porter

Katie Porter is a Law Professor at the University of California, Irvine. As a Consumer Protection Attorney who helped keep Orange County residents in their homes during the subprime mortgage crisis, she has helped shield families and consumers from the big Wall Street banks as well as financial institutions for over 20 years. Endorsed by Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren, she is working to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to gain affordable health care.

Her top issues include: Medicare for All, comprehensive mental health, no offshore drilling, overturn GOP tax scam.

The Republican Incumbent: Mimi Walters

Clinton beat Trump in California’s 45th District by more than five points, but that hasn’t stopped Congresswoman Mimi Walters from voting in lockstep with the Trump agenda. When her constituents showed up at a town hall to discuss her votes on health care and environmental issues, she tried to discredit them, claiming that they were “paid activists.” Someone with that much disrespect for the people she represents doesn’t deserve a seat in Congress.

Congresswoman Walters has consistently voted against Medicaid, yet:

  • 18% of the children in CA-45 are on Medicaid or CHIP, and
  • 8% of the adults in CA-45 are on Medicaid

  • Number of CA-45 Residents Covered Under the ACA’s Medicaid Expansion: 41,400
