All of us face the ever-present threat of gun violence. It’s a uniquely American illness in the industrialized world, largely because the Republican Party is bought and paid for by the gun manufacturers’ lobby.
Today, on the second anniversary of the massacre in Las Vegas, the deadliest mass shooting in United States history, we’re rising up.
We are launching a new postcard campaign aimed at priority households – suburban swing voters in Arizona and Colorado – with a message highlighting the abject failure of Republican Senators Martha McSally (R-AZ) and Cory Gardner (R-CO) to do anything to stop gun violence.
Policies that are broadly supported even by responsible gun owners, like universal background checks and the assault weapons ban, are blocked and ignored. “Thoughts and prayers” becomes “distract and do nothing.” It’s a farcical ritual we’ve seen play out dozens of times, and nothing will change until we sweep the Republicans out of power in Washington.
We’re tired of seeing our fellow Americans massacred, and we’re angry that Republicans like McSally and Gardner refuse to do something about it.
McSally and Gardner have stood in the way of universal background checks and the assault weapons ban. If they refuse to protect our loved ones, they don’t deserve to serve in the Senate any longer.
