Maureen is a retired public school teacher who has been shaped by growing up in a family of union members and labor organizers. Her work as an advocate for social and environmental justice ranges from the classroom, to starting sports programs for youth where there are none, and includes leadership in the NO-KXL campaign, Keep It In the Ground, the People's Climate Train, defense of the Endangered Species Act, divestment of petroleum investments in her home town, and opposition to the Oil Train Depot once planned in San Luis Obispo County. She has been deeply influenced by the living examples of her husband's calm demeanor nurtured by his family heritage in the Church of the Brethren and its non-violent traditions. Maureen looks for hiking and running trails wherever her feet may take her.
