The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a “pandemic.” Across the country and around the world, restrictions are being placed on a scale that none of us have ever seen to diminish the spread of this highly contagious and serious illness. Even so, Senate Republicans stood in the way of an expansive paid sick leave amendment that would have protect most American workers.
All of that is to say that even in the midst of this crisis, it is as critical as ever for us to continue fighting to Flip the Senate. As you might expect, most of our in-person activities have been cancelled.
Given these disruptions, we are expanding the kinds of programs that can be done from home and invite new volunteers in the fold: you can sign up here for remote phone banking and remote postcarding. We hope to have new remote texting opportunities soon and are in discussions with allies about it.
Which brings us to our latest challenge. Out of an abundance of caution and concern for our supporters, we’ve postponed one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, featuring former Congressman Barney Frank and Congresswoman Barbara Lee, and that’s a hit on our expected donations. It’s clear that our usual approach of fundraisers and house parties will not be possible for the near future. Yet the imperative for this work continues. Your contribution today will help us continue our direct voter engagement, despite this big setback for our organization .
If you suddenly find yourself sitting at home, know that a lot of voters are in the same boat, and they are reachable. We ask that you step up, get involved, and help us reach voters to Flip the West.
Stay safe, friends.
